Adarkar Wastes

Adarkar Wastes was originally released as part of the Ice Age expansion in 1995, representing the 'pain land' cycle that defined mana fixing in early Magic: The Gathering. This specific card originates from the 1996 Pro Tour Collector Set, a specialized release designed to commemorate the inaugural Pro Tour season by showcasing high-level tournament deck lists. These cards are easily identified by their gold-bordered faces and unique backs, which distinguish them from standard tournament-legal cards while preserving the aesthetic of the competitive meta at the time.

The card was illustrated by Quinton Hoover, a prolific artist during the game's formative years known for his distinct, fluid style. His depiction of the glacial, desolate landscape of the Adarkar Wastes helped establish the lore of the Dominarian ice age. By including this card in the Pro Tour Collector Set, Wizards of the Coast sought to provide players with an accessible piece of tournament history, allowing them to study and collect the specific configurations used by the world's most skilled players during that foundational era of competitive play.
