Where it came from
The Adorned Pouncer token was released in 2017 as part of the Hour of Devastation set for Magic: The Gathering. This specific card represents a creature token generated by the rare card Adorned Pouncer, which features the 'eternalize' mechanic. The set is themed around the desert world of Amonkhet and the catastrophic return of the dragon god Nicol Bolas, who reshapes the inhabitants of the plane into undead warriors.
The illustration was crafted by artist Magali Villeneuve, a prominent figure in the fantasy art community known for her clean, expressive style. In designing the token, Villeneuve focused on the regal yet lethal aesthetic of the cat-like warriors depicted in the set, emphasizing the gilded armor and feline anatomy that define the plane’s visual identity. The card was well-received by players for its thematic cohesion with the set's broader narrative of transformation and decay.
