Where it came from
Aerie Mystics was originally introduced in the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 1998. It was designed to support the set's broader themes of enchantment synergy and reactive gameplay, allowing players to return key enchantments from their graveyard to their hand. The illustration by Christopher Rush captures the ethereal, avian aesthetic characteristic of the set's white-aligned creatures, emphasizing the card's defensive utility within the game's evolving mechanics.
The inclusion of Aerie Mystics in the 2017 Commander Anthology marked its transition into the multiplayer-focused Commander format. This collection was curated to provide players with a curated selection of iconic cards and pre-constructed decks that defined the format's early growth. By reprinting the card with its original art, the anthology preserved its historical relevance for long-time players while introducing its unique protective capabilities to a new generation of enthusiasts.
