Where it came from
Aether Channeler was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United set, a collection designed to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It features the plane of Dominaria, the game's original setting, during a period of intense conflict against the invading Phyrexians. The card was mechanically crafted to provide versatility, allowing players to choose between bounce, draw, or token generation effects, reflecting the theme of tactical adaptability in a high-stakes war.
The artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a renowned fantasy artist known for her evocative portrayals of human characters and magical entities. Villeneuve aimed to capture the fluid, ethereal nature of the character's command over aether, utilizing a vibrant color palette to distinguish it from the darker, metallic tones present elsewhere in the set. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its efficient utility and its role as a solid 'value' creature in both limited and constructed formats.
