Provenance

Where it came from

Aether Hub was originally introduced as a versatile land card in the 2016 Kaladesh set, designed to provide flexible mana fixing for decks utilizing the energy counter mechanic. The Friday Night Magic 2017 promotional version was released as a premium reward for participants in local game store tournaments, serving as a functional staple that allowed players to stabilize their mana bases while incentivizing engagement in grassroots competitive play.

The artwork for this specific printing, illustrated by John Avon, continues the ethereal and steampunk aesthetic of the Kaladesh plane. Avon is known for his atmospheric landscape style, and for this piece, he emphasized the shimmering, mystical quality of the Aether as it flows into the device. The card was well-received by the player base for its utility in competitive formats like Standard and Modern, and the promotional foil treatment remains a sought-after piece for players who appreciate the visual cohesion of Avon's land designs.
