Akroma, Angel of Fury

Akroma, Angel of Fury was originally introduced in the 2007 Planar Chaos set as a color-shifted interpretation of the legendary Akroma, Angel of Wrath. While the original version focused on white mana, this iteration reimagined the character within the red color pie, trading protection from colors for fire-breathing abilities and a unique morph cost. This specific card, numbered 108, was later reprinted in the 2011 Commander product, a release that helped solidify the format's popularity by providing accessible legendary creatures for players to build decks around.

The artwork for this card was provided by Zoltan Boros and Gabor Szikszai, who were tasked with translating the ethereal, militant aesthetic of the original angel into a fiery, chaotic motif consistent with red mana. The design emphasizes a aggressive stance and volcanic energy, reflecting the shift in mechanical philosophy. Within the context of the Commander 2011 decks, the card was received as a high-impact finisher, valued by players for its ability to bypass countermagic due to the mechanics of the morph keyword, which allowed it to enter the battlefield face-down as a colorless creature.
