Akroma, Angel of Wrath

Akroma, Angel of Wrath was first released in the Legions set in 2003 as a manifestation of the character's immense power within the Magic: The Gathering lore. She was designed by Magic's creative team to be a definitive, high-cost threat, featuring a comprehensive array of keyword abilities that made her a formidable presence on the battlefield. The specific version from the 2009 Duel Decks: Divine vs. Demonic collection features iconic artwork by Chippy, who updated her appearance to reflect the thematic conflict between celestial divinity and infernal corruption.

This particular printing was intended to showcase one of the game's most feared legendary creatures as the centerpiece for the Divine side of the product. The Duel Decks were designed to provide balanced, ready-to-play experiences for casual and competitive players alike, reintroducing classic powerhouses to a new generation of collectors. Chippy's interpretation for this deck is widely regarded for its elegant, ethereal aesthetic, which diverged from the original card's more aggressive pose while retaining the character's status as a quintessential powerhouse of the white mana color identity.
