Alert Shu Infantry

Alert Shu Infantry was released in 1999 as part of the Portal Three Kingdoms set, a specialized expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed primarily for the Asian market, particularly targeting players in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, as a simplified entry point into the game's mechanics. The cards were inspired by the 14th-century Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, blending the game's fantasy aesthetic with key figures and military units from the era.

The art and design for the set were tailored to reflect the period, focusing on martial themes and traditional imagery. While the Portal series was initially received with mixed interest due to its simplified ruleset compared to the core game, the Portal Three Kingdoms set eventually became highly sought after by collectors. This interest is largely due to the limited print run and the scarcity of its cards, which introduced unique mechanics and cultural flavor that were not widely distributed in Western markets at the time.
