Provenance

Where it came from

All Is Dust was released in 2010 as part of the Rise of the Eldrazi expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to represent the cataclysmic arrival of the Eldrazi titans, ancient and colorlessly aligned entities that consume entire planes of existence. Mechanically, the card forces players to sacrifice all colored permanents, reflecting the flavor of the Eldrazi erasing the established magical systems of the world.

The card features artwork by Jason Chan, who was commissioned to capture the surreal, otherworldly devastation caused by the Eldrazi. Chan utilized a stark, desaturated palette to emphasize the sense of total annihilation inherent in the card's theme. Upon its release, it was lauded by players for both its powerful board-clearing utility in competitive formats and its cohesive integration of high-concept fantasy lore and artistic execution.
