Where it came from
Ambitious Assault was released in 2022 as part of the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set represented a creative reimagining of the plane of Kamigawa, shifting from its original historical, feudal aesthetic toward a futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired landscape where advanced technology blends with traditional spirit-based folklore.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Daarken, who focused on capturing the kinetic energy and tactical combat themes inherent to the card's mechanics. The design emphasizes the high-tech, neon-drenched atmosphere of the setting, reflecting the game's intent to visually distinguish this plane from the more grounded or high-fantasy environments typical of other sets in the franchise.
