Ancestral Memories

Ancestral Memories was first released in the Mirage expansion in 1996 before being included in the Classic Sixth Edition core set in 1999. It was designed during a period when Magic: The Gathering was refining its color identity, specifically reinforcing the blue mana characteristic of card advantage and deck manipulation. The card allows a player to look at the top seven cards of their library and choose two to put into their hand, a mechanic that emphasizes the strategic, intellectual nature of the game’s blue-aligned gameplay.
