Ancestral Recall was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering, designed by Richard Garfield as one of the 'Power Nine' cards. It was conceived as a highly efficient blue spell that allowed players to draw three cards for a single mana, a mechanic that fundamentally defined the game's early balance. The 2022 Vintage Championship version features new, high-fantasy artwork by Volkan Baǵa, a celebrated illustrator known for his detailed and atmospheric contributions to the game. This specific printing was issued as a commemorative prize for participants and winners of the Vintage Championship event. By reinterpreting one of the game's most potent artifacts, the design bridges the gap between the game's foundational 1990s aesthetic and the modern, polished visual identity that Baǵa brings to his work.
