Ancient Tomb

Ancient Tomb was originally introduced in the Tempest expansion in 1997, designed to provide players with a powerful, albeit risky, source of fast mana. The card allows a player to tap for two colorless mana at the cost of taking two damage, a mechanic that highlights the 'high-risk, high-reward' philosophy prevalent in early Magic: The Gathering design. By the time it was reprinted in the 2018 Ultimate Masters set, the card had solidified its status as a staple in eternal formats, prized for its ability to accelerate game plans significantly.

The Ultimate Masters version features new artwork by Yeong-Hao Han, who moved away from the darker, more industrial depiction of the original printing to provide a grander, more atmospheric look. Han's illustration captures the imposing scale and sense of history associated with the card’s namesake. This specific printing was well-received by the player base, offering a polished aesthetic update to a classic utility land that remains a fundamental component of competitive decks.
