Where it came from
Released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond Warhammer 40,000 Commander set, this card represents the iconic tactical doctrine of the Adeptus Astartes. The design team sought to translate the lore-heavy resilience and indoctrination of the Space Marines into a mechanical effect that bolsters creature toughness, effectively capturing the feeling of an unstoppable force moving across a battlefield.
The illustration features the stark, hyper-militarized aesthetic signature to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, emphasizing the imposing silhouette of an armored warrior. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy, serving as a functional piece of flavor that bridges the gap between traditional tabletop wargaming and the complex interactions of Magic: The Gathering.
