Annie Joins Up // Annie Joins Up

Annie Joins Up is part of the Art Series released in 2024 as a companion to the Magic: The Gathering set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. This series was designed to showcase the vivid, high-fantasy Western aesthetic of the plane, celebrating the work of artists who illustrate the game's expansive narrative. These cards function as oversized, borderless collectibles that shift the focus from the game mechanics of the original card to the aesthetic detail of the illustration itself.

The artwork for this piece was created by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a dramatic, cinematic composition to capture the character Annie Flash in a moment of decisive action. The illustration draws heavily from the tropes of the Spaghetti Western genre, employing high-contrast lighting and a dusty, sunset-drenched color palette to ground the character within the world of Thunder Junction. Upon release, the series was well-received by fans of the game for providing a dedicated format to display the intricate digital brushwork that defines modern Magic card design.
