Anrakyr the Traveller

Anrakyr the Traveller was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set, a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop that brought the lore of the Necrons and other factions into the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. The card was designed to reflect Anrakyr's canonical role as a Necron Overlord who travels across the galaxy to awaken dormant tomb worlds, utilizing a mechanical kit-centered ability that allows players to cast artifacts from their hand at a reduced cost.

The card features artwork by L J Koh, who captured the character’s cold, metallic presence and regal yet ominous silhouette. As part of the 'Necron Dynasties' deck, the card was well-received by the Magic community for its thematic accuracy to the source material, providing a powerful synergy for artifact-heavy strategies that players felt effectively translated the Necron obsession with ancient technology and expansion into the game's mechanics.
