Anowon, the Ruin Thief // Anowon, the Ruin Thief

Anowon, the Ruin Thief was introduced as a legendary creature in the Zendikar Rising set released in 2020, serving as the face commander for the Sneak Attack preconstructed deck. The character of Anowon, a rogue scholar and vampire historian, had previously appeared in Magic: The Gathering lore, but this iteration solidified his mechanical identity as a facilitator for rogue-tribal synergy, encouraging players to mill opponents and gain card advantage through combat damage.

This specific item originates from the Zendikar Rising Art Series, a collection of cards featuring enlarged, borderless illustrations. The artwork for this card was rendered by artist Yongjae Choi, who focused on capturing Anowon’s enigmatic and cunning aesthetic amidst the treacherous landscape of Zendikar. These cards were designed to highlight the intricate detail of the game's creature designs, proving popular among collectors who appreciate the visual artistry of the trading card game outside of standard gameplay mechanics.
