Antoine Ruel Decklist

The 2001 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to experience the exact card lists used by the top eight competitors at the 2001 Magic: The Gathering World Championships. This specific deck mirrors the 'U/G Opposition' strategy employed by French player Antoine Ruel, a prominent figure in the professional circuit. The release was intended to provide both a snapshot of the competitive metagame at the turn of the millennium and a playable tool for fans interested in high-level tournament tactics.

The deck design emphasizes the synergistic combination of blue and green cards, notably utilizing the card Opposition to exert control over the battlefield. The cards in this set are distinguished by gold-bordered backs and the player's signature printed on the face, marking them as non-tournament-legal replicas. This series was well-received by the community for its accessibility, as it provided an affordable way for players to test complex professional-grade strategies that would have otherwise been prohibitively expensive to build from individual tournament-legal cards.
