Where it came from
Arashin Sovereign was released as part of the Dragons of Tarkir set in early 2015, serving as a rare creature card within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was specifically included in the Dragons of Tarkir Promos series, marked as collector number 212, which featured alternate art or promotional treatments designed to engage players during prerelease events and expansion launches.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a prominent artist known for his ethereal and high-fantasy style within the game's ecosystem. Voss sought to capture the majestic and imposing nature of the dragon lord, emphasizing the creature's connection to the Dromoka clan and their ideological focus on endurance and protection. The design was received by the player base as a solid representative of the set's dragon-centric theme, balancing aesthetic flair with functional utility in the game's competitive formats.
