Where it came from
Argivian Find was released in 1997 as part of the Weatherlight expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents a pivotal moment in the game's evolving narrative, depicting an artifact retrieval mission during the Phyrexian invasion storyline. It was designed to provide white decks with a reliable way to recover artifacts from the graveyard, reinforcing the color's utility-focused role in the game's complex mechanical ecosystem.
The card features artwork by artist Donato Giancola, who was tasked with capturing the thematic essence of Dominarian archaeology. Giancola’s illustration emphasizes a sense of discovery and scholarly focus, aligning with the aesthetic direction of the Weatherlight set, which leaned heavily into high-fantasy adventure and historical depth. The piece was well-regarded for its atmospheric composition and remains a recognizable example of late-90s Magic card design.
