Where it came from
Armor Sliver was originally introduced in the 1997 Stronghold expansion for Magic: The Gathering, serving as part of the initial wave of the hive-minded creature type. Designed by the development team to showcase the unique mechanic of shared keywords, the card allowed players to grant the +0/+1 toughness boost to all Sliver creatures on the battlefield. The original illustration by Quinton Hoover captured the creature's alien, segmented anatomy, which quickly became a defining aesthetic for the race.
This specific printing comes from the 2009 Premium Deck Series: Slivers, a boxed set curated to celebrate the legacy of one of the game's most iconic tribal themes. Featuring updated card frames and a distinct foil treatment, this release was intended to provide veteran players and collectors with tournament-legal, aesthetically unified versions of key Sliver cards. The set was well-received for its cohesive design and served as a nostalgic nod to the creature type's enduring popularity in casual and competitive formats.
