Armored Pegasus

Armored Pegasus was released in 1997 as part of the Portal base set, a product line designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce new players to the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Unlike the standard releases of the time, Portal featured simplified card mechanics and a strictly limited set of keyword abilities, intended to lower the barrier to entry for beginners and casual players who found the base game's rules increasingly complex.

The card illustration was created by Andrew Robinson, a prolific artist known for his distinct, painterly style that became a hallmark of the late 1990s Magic era. Robinson's depiction of the Pegasus focuses on the creature's functional role within the game's white mana color philosophy, emphasizing protective themes and aerial maneuverability. While the card is a common and was not designed for tournament competitive play, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for players who entered the hobby during the late nineties.
