Armored Pegasus

Armored Pegasus was released in 1997 as part of the Portal set, a standalone product designed by Wizards of the Coast to serve as an entry point for new Magic: The Gathering players. The set introduced a simplified ruleset, omitting complex mechanics like phasing or interrupt spells, and featured a distinct, cleaner layout with simplified card frames intended to make the game more accessible to a younger or less experienced audience.

The card illustration was executed by artist D. Alexander Gregory, who contributed a traditional fantasy aesthetic that adhered to the early, high-fantasy art direction of the game. While Portal did not enjoy the same long-term competitive ubiquity as core expansions, it remains a notable chapter in the game's history for its role in expanding the player base during the late 1990s and for the unique, simplified visual language of its card designs.
