Where it came from
Armored Skyhunter was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander preconstructed deck series. The card was designed to function within the Boros (red-white) color identity, specifically catering to the lore of the Lorehold College at Strixhaven University, an institution dedicated to history, archaeology, and the study of the past. Its mechanics, which focus on equipment and artifact synergy, reflect the adventurous spirit of explorers who delve into ancient ruins.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who utilized a vivid, magical aesthetic consistent with the high-fantasy theme of the set. The design emphasizes the armored nature of the creature, blending celestial imagery with tactical gear to convey a sense of battle-ready mysticism. Upon release, the card was received as a functional, mid-range support creature, valued by players for its ability to provide aerial versatility and artifact interaction within Commander-format decks.
