What it does
Exile the top four cards of your library in a face-down pile, then exile the top four cards of your library in a face-up pile. An opponent chooses one of those piles. Put that pile into your graveyard. Look at the cards in the other pile. You may cast a spell from among them without paying its mana cost. Put the rest into your hand.

Where it came from
Abstract Performance was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander set. The card was designed to support the mechanics of the Prismari college, which emphasizes the fusion of creative expression and elemental magic. It functions as a sorcery that provides players with versatility, allowing them to choose between creating a treasure token or copying a permanent they control, reflecting the chaotic and bold spirit of the institution.
The card features illustration by Campbell White, who captured the fluid, abstract nature of magical energy characteristic of the Prismari aesthetic. The visual design leans into vibrant color palettes and kinetic motion to represent the act of artistic creation through spells. Upon its release, it was well-received by Commander players for its utility in decks that benefit from flexible resource management and the ability to replicate powerful board states.
