Where it came from
Artistic Process was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Within the lore of the set, this card depicts the curriculum of Prismari College, the university's house of elemental arts, where students are taught to channel raw magic through creative expression. The design reflects the visual identity of the plane of Arcavios, emphasizing the fusion of spellcasting and aesthetic mastery.
The card's illustration was crafted by artist Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a bold, expressive style to capture the chaotic yet focused nature of a Prismari mage at work. The piece was well-received by the player base for its ability to mechanically represent the 'copy' theme of the set, serving as a functional tool that allows players to duplicate their own spells, thereby mirroring the concept of artistic imitation and iteration.
