Where it came from
The Aspect of Wolf card was released in 1993 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Collectors' Edition. This set was produced as a non-tournament legal boxed set aimed at collectors, featuring gold-bordered backs and squared corners to distinguish the cards from the standard Alpha and Beta releases that had launched the game earlier that year.
The artwork for the card was created by Sandra Everingham, who contributed several pieces to the game's early sets. Her design for Aspect of Wolf reflects the fantasy aesthetic prevalent in the early 1990s, focusing on thematic depictions of nature and enchantment consistent with the green mana cards of the era. The card was well-received by collectors who sought a high-quality, fixed-distribution set that allowed them to own rare and iconic early artwork without the volatility of the primary market.
