Where it came from
Attunement was released in 1998 as part of the Urza's Saga expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set was centered around the intricate lore of the artificer Urza and introduced the 'Enchantment' card type focus that defined the block's mechanical identity. The set is remembered for its high power level and complex card interactions that significantly shifted the competitive landscape of the era.
The card features artwork by artist Donato Giancola, who was commissioned to illustrate the card's theme of spiritual or magical alignment. Giancola’s design utilizes a soft, ethereal aesthetic typical of his work for the game, aiming to visually represent the concept of searching one's deck for resources. The card was well-received by players for its efficiency in deck thinning and graveyard interaction, eventually becoming a notable piece of late-nineties Magic history.
