Where it came from
Attunement was originally printed in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, designed by Wizards of the Coast during a period of experimental card mechanics. This specific version originates from the World Championship Decks 2000, a curated product line that reproduced the sixty-card deck lists used by top-tier competitors at the Magic: The Gathering World Championship. The card features the signature of professional player Tom van de Logt, whose successful tournament strategy prompted its inclusion in the commemorative set.
The card’s artwork, rendered by artist Heather Hudson, captures the mystical and serene aesthetic typical of the game's late-nineties visual style. As an enchantment that allows a player to draw and discard, it was celebrated for its tactical utility in enabling graveyard-focused strategies. The World Championship Deck series was specifically crafted for collectors to experience the high-level play of the era, and these cards are easily distinguished from standard releases by their unique gold-bordered frames and the facsimile signatures of the professional players who piloted them.
