Audacious Swap was released in 2022 as part of the New Capenna Commander set, specifically appearing as an extended-art promotional card. The design was born from the thematic requirements of the Streets of New Capenna expansion, which centered on a 1920s-inspired metropolis controlled by five distinct demon-led crime families. As an instant card associated with the Obscura family, its mechanics reflect the faction's focus on information control and strategic manipulation, fitting perfectly into the set's narrative of organized crime and political intrigue.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Igor Grechanyi, who utilized a stylistic approach to capture the noir atmosphere characteristic of New Capenna. Grechanyi’s work highlights the high-stakes, cutthroat aesthetic of the plane, employing sharp lighting and dynamic composition to depict the essence of a deal gone wrong or a clever mid-combat maneuver.
