Where it came from
The Auditore Ambush card originates from the Assassin's Creed Magic: The Gathering set, released in 2024. This collection was designed as a Universes Beyond expansion, aiming to integrate the narrative-heavy world of Ubisoft's stealth-action franchise into the strategic mechanics of Wizards of the Coast's trading card game. The card represents a specific moment of tension derived from the series' lore, focusing on the historical setting of the Italian Renaissance.
The artistic direction for the set was intended to evoke the aesthetic of Ezio Auditore da Firenze's timeline, utilizing stylistic cues from the video game's visual design. The illustration on the card seeks to capture the atmosphere of an impending confrontation, a hallmark of the franchise's gameplay loop. Upon its release, the set was received as a bridge between two distinct gaming fanbases, with the card itself being viewed as a thematic representation of the 'assassination' mechanics prevalent throughout the Assassin's Creed games.
