Where it came from
Augur of Autumn was released in 2024 as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, a collection designed to immerse players in the tropes of 1980s horror cinema. This specific card features a new illustration, placing the creature within the atmospheric, haunted aesthetic of the Duskmourn plane. The design team sought to capture a sense of unsettling anticipation, balancing the card's established mechanical utility with the terrifying, house-bound narrative of the expansion.
The character design reflects the thematic transition of the original Innistrad-originating card into the distinct horror-movie lens of Duskmourn. By emphasizing shadows and the claustrophobic environment of the house, the artwork aims to ground the player in the set's survival-horror themes. Upon release, the card was received as a functional staple for green-aligned decks, praised by the community for how well the new art interpreted the card's ability to manipulate the top of the library.
