Provenance

Where it came from

Aura Fracture was released in 2000 as part of the Prophecy expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was unique in its development, as it was the final expansion designed by the 'Weatherlight' saga team and was intended to introduce a more aggressive, high-variance playstyle to the game. It occupies a space in history as a set often debated for its impact on competitive balance and its experimental approach to enchantment-based mechanics.

The card features artwork by Greg Staples, an illustrator known for his dark and detailed fantasy style. The design aimed to represent the literal destruction of magical auras, utilizing the white mana color identity which focuses on artifact and enchantment removal. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional utility piece, serving as a staple sideboard option for players looking to dismantle complex board states involving enchantments.
