Where it came from
The Autumn Willow card was originally released as part of the Homelands expansion in 1995, but the specific iteration known as the Pro Tour Collector Set version was distributed as a promotional item during the early days of the Magic: The Gathering professional circuit. These sets were designed to showcase powerful or thematic cards from the game's nascent competitive environment, often serving as mementos for participants and high-level observers of the fledgling Pro Tour.
The art for Autumn Willow was crafted by illustrator Dameon Willich, who depicted the creature as a haunting, ethereal dryad figure consistent with the game’s late-90s high-fantasy aesthetic. While the original Homelands release was frequently criticized by players for its perceived lack of competitive viability, the inclusion of this card in the curated Pro Tour Collector Set elevated its profile, marking it as a piece of history from an era when Wizards of the Coast was still defining the standard for promotional collectibles.
