What it does
The next time target creature would deal damage this turn, prevent that damage. You gain life equal to the damage prevented this way.
Stunned by the mere presence of the leonin kha, the nim raider quickly fell to its knees.

Where it came from
Awe Strike was released in 2003 as part of the Mirrodin expansion, the first set in a block defined by its heavy focus on artifacts and a metallic, industrial aesthetic. Within the game's mechanics, the card belongs to a cycle of white spells designed to punish aggressive creature strategies, reflecting the set's intent to shift the balance of power toward high-synergy artifact interactions.
The card features artwork by Greg Hildebrandt, one half of the iconic Brothers Hildebrandt duo known for their work in fantasy illustration. His contribution captures the visceral nature of combat within the Mirrodin plane, utilizing a dramatic lighting style to emphasize the reactive, defensive nature of the spell as it redirects the momentum of an attacking creature back upon itself.
