Where it came from
Azusa, Lost but Seeking first appeared in the Champions of Kamigawa expansion in 2004, designed by the Magic: The Gathering research and development team to represent a legendary scout from the forests of Jukai. The card mechanics, which allow players to play additional lands each turn, quickly cemented its status as a staple in green-aligned decks, particularly in the Commander format, due to its unique acceleration capability.
The 173s promo version from Core Set 2021 features an alternate art treatment by artist Magali Villeneuve. Released in 2020 as part of a series of promotional cards, the design aimed to provide a fresh visual interpretation of the character while maintaining the iconic functionality of the original printing. It was well-received by players for its refined aesthetic and remains a sought-after version for collectors who value specialized art treatments.
