Where it came from
Baird, Argivian Recruiter was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The card depicts a central character from the franchise's long-running lore, representing the defense forces of Benalia during the Phyrexian invasion of the plane. It serves as a mechanical evolution of the original Baird, Steward of Argive, recontextualized within the high-stakes narrative of the Dominaria United expansion.
The artwork for this card was commissioned from illustrator Lucas Graciano, who focused on capturing Baird's tactical demeanor amidst the chaos of the Phyrexian incursion. His design approach emphasizes the character's role as a leader and organizer, utilizing the game's established visual language for human military figures within the Dominarian setting. Upon its release, the card was noted by the player community for its strategic utility in white-aligned creature decks, particularly within the Commander format.
