Barkchannel Pathway // Tidechannel Pathway

Barkchannel Pathway // Tidechannel Pathway was released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set titled Kaldheim. This set drew heavy inspiration from Norse mythology and the harsh landscapes of the Viking Age, positioning the dual-sided land cards as reflections of the shifting, elemental geography found across the realm. As part of a cycle of rare lands that allow players to choose between two colors of mana, the card was designed to improve deck consistency without the traditional drawbacks of entering the battlefield tapped.

The illustrations for this card were executed by artist Alayna Danner, whose work is noted for its evocative use of light and natural, painterly textures. Danner was tasked with capturing the dual identity of the location, illustrating a verdant forest path on the Barkchannel side and an aqueous, bioluminescent oceanic passage on the Tidechannel side. The card was well-received by the player base, particularly in competitive formats, for its flexibility and elegant visual transition between the two disparate environments.
