Barter in Blood was originally released in 2004 as part of the Mirrodin block, appearing in the Darksteel expansion. It was later reprinted as part of the 2009 Duel Decks: Divine vs. Demonic set, serving as one of the key thematic cards for the 'Demonic' half of the box. This specific release sought to pit two iconic archetypes of Magic: The Gathering lore against one another, utilizing aggressive black-aligned mechanics to represent the Demonic side of the conflict.
