Where it came from
Battle Mastery was released in 2018 as part of the Battlebond set, a unique expansion designed specifically for the Two-Headed Giant multiplayer format. The set focused on themes of teamwork and shared victory, featuring a collection of cards that emphasized coordination between partners. This particular enchantment, which grants double strike to a target creature, fits the set's aggressive, combat-oriented design philosophy.
The card’s artwork was illustrated by Svetlin Velinov, a veteran artist known for his dynamic character portraits within the game. Velinov’s design intent was to capture the intensity of a focused, high-stakes duel, utilizing bold lighting and sharp angles to emphasize the speed and precision of a double strike. The card was well-received by players for its efficiency in Limited formats, where turning a single creature into a dual-threat presence often served as a decisive game-ending play.
