Beacon of Creation

Beacon of Creation was released in 2004 as part of the Fifth Dawn expansion, the final set in the Mirrodin block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to explore the mechanical interaction between the artificial world of Mirrodin and the arrival of organic life, with the cycle of 'Beacon' cards created to provide powerful, repeatable effects that shuffled back into the player's library upon resolution. This design was intended to reward players for building long-game strategies in the game's competitive environments.

The card’s illustration was commissioned from veteran Magic artist Mark Tedin, who has contributed to the game since its inception. Tedin’s depiction of the beacon reflects the set’s theme of nature infiltrating a metallic plane, utilizing his signature style to blend organic, flowing forms with the rigid, industrial aesthetic established by the Mirrodin block. Upon release, the card was well-received by players focusing on green-aligned decks, particularly for its ability to generate significant board presence in formats that favored ramping into high-cost spells.
