Blackcleave Cliffs

Blackcleave Cliffs was originally introduced in the 2010 set Scars of Mirrodin as part of a cycle of fast lands, designed to provide aggressive decks with colored mana early in a game at the cost of potential late-game utility. This specific version, a promotional printing from the 2023 Phyrexia: All Will Be One set, serves as a thematic return to the corrupting influence of the Phyrexians on the plane of Mirrodin. The card mechanical function remains a staple in eternal formats like Modern, where its ability to produce two colors of mana untapped during the first three turns is highly valued by tempo-oriented strategies.

The artwork for this promotional variant was executed by artist Jonas De Ro, who brings a distinct, painterly interpretation to the desolated, metal-fused landscape of the plane. His design emphasizes the grim, industrial aesthetic of the New Phyrexian transformation, highlighting the jagged cliffs that have become synonymous with the corrupted landscape. It was received by the Magic: The Gathering community as a visually striking collectible, blending the practical utility of a high-tier land card with the evocative, dark fantasy lore that defines the Phyrexian narrative arc.
