Blood Lust

Blood Lust was released in 1994 as part of the Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set was notable for introducing the concept of multicolor cards and legendary creatures to the game, attempting to expand the narrative scope of the Magic multiverse. As an uncommon instant, Blood Lust was designed to provide a high-risk, high-reward combat trick, allowing a creature to gain a significant power boost at the cost of being destroyed at the end of the turn.

The artwork was provided by Anson Maddocks, one of the original illustrators whose work defined the dark, gritty aesthetic of early Magic. Maddocks' style, characterized by a visceral and often unsettling approach to fantasy creatures, suited the visceral nature of the card's effect.
