Provenance

Where it came from

Bloodstained Mire was originally introduced in the 2002 expansion set Onslaught as part of a cycle of rare lands that allow players to search their deck for specific land types. The version featured in the 2003 World Championship Decks was selected for inclusion in the deck piloted by professional player Daniel Zink. These decks were printed as non-tournament-legal replicas of the top-performing lists from the 2003 Magic: The Gathering World Championship, serving as a way for the public to play with high-level professional archetypes.

The card design features artwork by artist Anthony S. Waters, who provided a dark, visceral aesthetic to match the card's theme of sacrificing health to manipulate deck composition. The World Championship release is distinguished by gold-bordered frames and the signature of the player who utilized the deck in competition printed on the card face. These editions are highly recognizable to collectors as a functional, if technically non-tournament-legal, representation of the game's competitive history.
