Island

The 2003 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast as a commemorative product, allowing players to purchase exact replicas of the 75-card decks used by the top eight finishers at the 2003 Magic: The Gathering World Championship in Berlin. This particular Island is part of the deck piloted by Daniel Zink, who secured his title playing a 'Slide' archetype deck. The cards are easily distinguished from standard tournament-legal versions by their gold-bordered backs, non-standard card backs, and the facsimile signature of the player printed directly onto the card face.

The card art itself utilizes the classic landscape illustration by Rob Alexander, originally featured in the Onslaught expansion. Alexander’s work is highly regarded in the Magic community for its atmospheric depth and foundational role in defining the visual language of the game’s basic lands during that era. By including these specific tournament-winning configurations in the World Championship series, Wizards of the Coast aimed to offer enthusiasts a unique piece of competitive history, preserving the exact card lists and aesthetic choices that dominated the highest levels of play in 2003.
