Boggart Shenanigans

Boggart Shenanigans was originally introduced in the Lorwyn expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2007. Set within the whimsical yet often dark folkloric world of Lorwyn, the card embodies the chaotic and destructive nature of the Goblins, known there as Boggarts. These creatures were depicted as mischievous, thrill-seeking beings who found joy in arson and disorder, a theme perfectly captured by the card's mechanics which reward the player for sacrificing their own forces to deal direct damage.

The card’s art was created by Warren Mahy, a long-time contributor to the game whose style is known for bringing a gritty, tactile realism to fantasy creatures. Mahy’s illustration emphasizes the manic, fire-obsessed temperament of the Boggart, framing the creature in a composition that balances frantic action with the distinct aesthetic of the Lorwyn plane. Upon its release, it became a staple in tribal-themed decks, appreciated by players for its efficiency in facilitating aggressive gameplay strategies.
