Where it came from
Bonny Pall, Clearcutter was released in 2024 as part of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set centers on a Wild West-themed plane where legendary figures from across the multiverse gather to commit crimes and seek fortune. This specific card represents the character Bonny Pall, a giant druid who serves as a protector of the frontier's natural balance against the encroaching industrialization and lawlessness of the setting.
The card features artwork by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who utilized a lush, verdant aesthetic to emphasize the character’s connection to the land and her companion, Bloomkin. The design reflects the set's mechanical focus on building presence through land ramp and creature synergy. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its strong utility in Commander formats, where its ability to create a scaling token and draw cards provides significant late-game value.
