Where it came from
Bonny Pall, Clearcutter was introduced as a mythic rare creature in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Set in a frontier-fantasy plane, the card reflects the expansion's western-themed aesthetic, portraying the character as a formidable outlaw-turned-defender of the wilderness. It was designed to synergize with land-based mechanics, mechanically representing the character's thematic connection to the untamed environment of the plane.
The artwork was illustrated by artist Wisnu Tan, who captured the character's imposing presence alongside her massive mount, Bonny. Within the context of the game's competitive meta, the card was received as a high-impact threat in limited and commander formats, lauded for its ability to generate both board presence and resource advantage upon entry. Its design highlights a sophisticated approach to creature-land interaction, solidifying its place as a standout card within the set.
