Booster Tutor

Booster Tutor was originally designed for the 2004 Unhinged expansion as a playful subversion of the standard Magic: The Gathering deck-searching mechanic. Created during a period when Wizards of the Coast sought to experiment with 'silver-bordered' sets that prioritized humor and meta-game mechanics over tournament legality, the card allows a player to open a new, sealed booster pack and put one card from it into their hand. It represents the ultimate intersection of the card game's collectible nature and its strategic gameplay, famously requiring players to possess unopened product to resolve its effect.

The version from the 2020 Unsanctioned set features updated frame aesthetics while retaining the original illustration by Heather Hudson. Hudson, a long-time contributor to the game's visual identity, utilized a whimsical and detailed style that captures the frantic energy of a player scrambling through a pack of cards.
