Where it came from
Booster Tutor was originally released in the 2004 Unhinged expansion as a playful subversion of the tutor mechanic, allowing players to search their library for a booster pack from their collection to open and add to their hand. Its design by Mark Rosewater was intended to inject a sense of unpredictability and chaos into the Magic: The Gathering experience, reflecting the satirical nature of the Un-sets which prioritize fun and bizarre interactions over standard competitive play.
The Unsanctioned printing released in 2020 features new, vibrant artwork by Johannes Voss. This version maintained the card's iconic role as a staple of draft-based humor sets, with Voss’s illustration capturing the whimsical energy of the Un-universe. The card remains a notable collector's item for those who appreciate the meta-narrative elements of the game, as it uniquely forces players to engage with the physical product during a match.
