Bound // Determined was released in 2006 as part of the Dissension expansion, the final set in the Ravnica block for Magic: The Gathering. As a split card, it represents the mechanical identity of the Simic Combine, a guild focused on biological experimentation and adaptation. The design team created these split cards to showcase the dual nature of each guild, providing players with versatile choices that reflected the guild's color philosophy and tactical role within the game environment.

The artwork was illustrated by Aleksi Briclot, a prolific fantasy artist known for his atmospheric and detailed style. For this card, Briclot was tasked with visually representing two distinct concepts—the act of restraining an opponent and the act of surging forward—within the limited vertical space of a split card. The art was well-received by the player base for its clear depiction of the Simic guild's aesthetic, blending organic forms with the technological, laboratory-grown style that defined the Ravnica plane.
